Citizen Science: Butterfly Survey Training

April 15, 2023 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Have you considered volunteering for the Licking Park District? Are you interested in making a difference for conservation? Would you like to get more experience identifying many of Ohio’s butterflies? Would you enjoy getting outside to walk and count butterflies? If any of these questions are a yes, then this program is for you!

First step: Complete the online volunteer application. When your application is submitted, you will receive an email from our Volunteer Coordinator with a link to complete your required volunteer screening (at no cost to you). CLICK HERE to APPLY

Second step: Register for this citizen science training! 2022 marked the fourth year of the butterfly transect survey at Infirmary Mound Park. The survey is modeled off of a long-term butterfly monitoring project hosted by the Ohio Lepidopterists, the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, and the Ohio Biological Survey.  The transect is a fixed route along which walks are made. The goal is to collect long-term data that will help track trends in species diversity and abundance. In 2023 we plan to add transects at Lobdell Reserve and Taft South! You could help us be a success!
