Cancelled: Mushroom Inoculation Class
April 5 @ 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM$30
Please note some changes to this program. This program will now be set up more as a class setting at Infirmary Mound Park. Mushrooms make a wonderful complement to freshly harvested herbs and vegetables from your garden and are not any more difficult to grow. Join Janell Baran of Blue Owl Hollow Forest Farm to learn a straight-forward log inoculation technique suitable for small-scale production of several different culinary mushrooms. Not all mushrooms can be cultivated this way, but shiitake, oyster, mukitake and nameko are examples of choice edibles which, given the right situation and basic maintenance, will thrive for years in your yard, shade garden, or woodlot. Log harvesting, site selection, care of inoculated logs, and various mushroom cultivation resources will be covered and each participant will have the opportunity to purchase ($45) a grow-your-own shiitake log to take home.
