GRANVILLE, OHIO (April 17, 2017) In 2016, over 750 Licking County citizens attended the Outdoors Adventure to mark “Turn Your Screen Off” Week. Again this year, Licking Park District and several partnering organizations will join millions of others, nationally, to encourage turning off televisions, smartphones, tablets, and gaming consoles for seven days and tune into the world around them. LPD invites you: families, individuals, and all ages, to join the kick off celebration and the fun of Outdoor Adventures on Sunday, April 30, from 12–4 pm, at Infirmary Mound Park, Rt 37 South of Granville.
“Turn Your Screen Off” Week is a chance for children, youth, and adults to read, play, think, create, be more physically active, and spend more time with friends and family.“We are losing focus on what kids should really be doing to develop themselves physically, socially, and academically … technology can be a wonderful thing, however, we kids, the future of America, need to be careful that we allow technology to enhance our lives but not take them over,” said Luke Roth, an eighth grade student from Cromwall, NY.
Visitors will be able to try canoeing and kayaking on Mirror Lake, a rock-climbing wall, the bounce house, and disc golf on a small course with the Columbus Flyers Disc Golf Club, discs will be available to try the acitivity and for purchase. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) archery trailer will be at the park for those who want to test their target skills. A wide range of creative and educational acitivites–crafts, kites, “pet a horse,” and Yoga–will be offered by participating community organizations. Two food vendors: Sophie’s Pierogies and Wild Things Hot Dog Cart will also be on site.
Participating organizations this year are: Ace Archers, Boy Scout Troop 4002, Columbus Flyers Disc Golf Club, Dawes Arboretum, Granville Recreation Department, Granville Kiwanis, Granville Senior Center of Licking County, Licking County Health Department, Licking County Recycling, Licking County Soil and Water Conservation District, Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Ohio Horseman’s Council, Restoring Light Yoga and others.
LPD is excited to make this a great event and encourages everyone to attend other Outdoor Adventures offered throughout the year.
